So for proof of my range of tastes I present to you my TV watching today. This afternoon I spent a good chunk of the day watching Planet Earth, an educational, award-winning, quality program. Following that I watched something new... I watched about an hour-and-a-half of My Big Redneck Wedding. This show is one of the worst, most horrifying and yet amazing shows I have ever seen! Pretty much the entire time I watched with my jaw dropped and the occasional expletive due to complete shock. For example, one of the episodes was about a young couple in Alabama getting married with a confederate flag theme. Here's the kicker though, they were brother and sister! They were not biological brother and sister, the girl was adopted by his parents at age 16, but STILL! I just cannot believe this is a television show and yet I find myself wanting to watch it more...trash television can be pretty wonderful and in a way, really validating that my life is good. Does that sound bad?
On a completely separate note, I just read that the World Bank is going to provide funds to developing countries so that they don't feel the pain of the economic crisis. Based on what I've learned about the World Bank, this is a terrible idea. The World Bank and the IMF were established to help improve the conditions and infrastructure of developing countries, but more often than not, they end up causing more harm than good. By putting high interest rates and western conditions upon the loans it burdens the recipients of such loans and causes tensions to rise. If they give the money as grants and/or no interest loans then the likelihood of actually helping and doing some good is much greater I think. I don't know...I hope it works out for the recipients' sake.
Finally, I just saw a preview for Saw V. When are they going to stop making these movies?! Admittedly I have never seen one, but they seem like absolute crap and they just keep getting churned out.
So for the final count, I have addressed two intellectual items and two garbage items...evidence that I'm well-rounded, no?
